I know that are hope is that the product(s) or service(s) that we sell will cater to a wide variety of persons and for some people that is the case and for others that may not be. Therefore, it is important to narrow down who your target audience is. Target audience refers to the group of people that your product(s) or service(s) is geared towards. For example, if a service you offer is babysitting, a large portion of your target audience should be mothers, single mothers, single fathers, parents etc. Why? Because they are the ones who are most likely in need or are interested in the service(s) that you provide.
The title for this blog post came to mind when a client compared something I did with the way another company did it. Obviously, persons will compare and that is fine however what isn’t okay is for you to feel some type of way because they preferred or chose the other company over yours. Constructive criticism is always good once it is coming from a good place, and we are all still learning each day. However, if you are confident in what you offer, you know that your product(s) / service(s) are valuable, and you know that you’ve put your best into what you are providing then you should feel no way that someone chose another company over you. You shouldn’t have to water down your product(s) / service(s) or reduce your price significantly in order to gain the business of a client / customer. Don’t get me wrong…if this is someone you know that has good intentions, they mention to you that they like your product(s) / service(s) however have a specific budget that they would like to stay within and you are able to accommodate that go ahead and do so, but let’s not sell ourselves short to gain business. This will only lead to you feeling used, taken advantage of and it will not sustain your business.
It’s okay to #respectfully let a potential client / customer sometimes know that “I appreciate your interested in xyz company however I don’t think our company will be a good fit for you”.
Remember: Every client is not for you and that is okay.
I said what I said…when I said it.
